Haldane UK has demonstrated its expertise in timber machining with the manufacture and installation of the treads, risers and landing areas at the development of the new School of Informatics at Edinburgh University .

Working in conjunction with leading metalwork contractors, M&S Engineering, Haldane manufactured over 300 sets of treads and risers and 17 landing areas from FSC certified European Oak for the spiral staircases in the development.

Every tread in the contract featured a distinctive 3 groove design to provide enhanced grip on the stairs and constructed in three 100mm sections that were finger jointed for maximum strength.

The contract demonstrated that Haldane’s timber machining excellence can be achieved very cost effectively thanks to the superb efficiency of its twin table multi headed 3 axis CNC router.

Managing Director, Forrester Adam , explained “Haldane has traditionally been seen as the timber machining company to turn to when nobody else can manufacture what you require. However our investment in our 3 axis CNC machine means that we are now extremely competitive in the more run of the mill components such as treads, risers and landings.”

To ensure that the contract was finished to the superior standards that Haldane has built its enviable reputation on, the company also completed the French polishing of all treads, risers and landings with a heavy duty flooring lacquer.
