Haldane UK's Bid For Olympic Glory
Haldane UK has celebrated London's success in securing the 2012
Olympic Games by manufacturing a bespoke glazing bead with the official
logo design.
Haldane has used the project not as a bid for its own Olympic
glory but to demonstrate the company's ability to manufacturing
glazing beads in any shape or profile.
Managing Director, Forrester Adam, said "Of course, we would like
nothing more than to see our handrails and glazing beads in the
superb Olympic venues that are planned for London 2012, however
that was never our intention."
The Olympic logo is one of the most instantly recognisable symbols
in the world and despite looking incredibly simple its construction
as a timber glazing bead is extraordinarily difficult and demands
the latest machining technology that only Haldane can offer.
Forrester continued, "Machining a glazing bead by hand in a design
as intricate as the Olympic logo would take an experienced craftsman
approximately 2 days, however our technology enables a glazing bead
with this level of intricacy to be produced in a fraction of the
time, making them infinitely feasible and affordable."
Haldane's expert skills have previously been used to manufacture
glazing beads in all shapes and sizes from flags to letters of the
alphabet.
The company has even produced a stunning cloud-shaped glazing bead
for a children's hospital in Newcastle as well as supplying glazing
beads for Hampden Park which will be one of the venues at the London
2012 Olympics.
Forrester concluded, "Circular and ladder glazing beads are our
bread and butter and we can produce thousands of these every year
however we enjoy the challenge of producing one off glazing beads.
By demonstrating our full capabilities we hope architects and designers
will look at the potential of creating dramatic features from their
vision panels."
