Success Portfolio - ArchiveBIG IDEA SET TO GO WITH A BANG THE specialist handrail manufacturer Haldane UK Ltd. has found the formula for success with a chemical plant where a new exhibition centre looks set to go with a bang. The firm, based in Glenrothes, Fife, has won a £25,000 contract to supply handrails at The Big Idea near Irvine, which charts the story of explosives through the ages. Situated at the tip of the Ardeer Peninsula, the project, which is being carried out by Amec Construction Scotland Ltd., involves converting part of the Nobel Chemical Plant, formerly occupied by ICI, which is no longer used because of a decrease in the production of explosives. The new exhibition centre can be reached from Irvine by a footbridge over the River Irvine. Forrester Adam, Director of Haldane UK, explained: "We have been sub-contracted to supply and install American white oak handrails for the feature stairs and atrium areas - and we've even been asked to provide a guarantee that the warmth of the handrails will not be suffcient to cause a safety hazard! "This unusual contract is testament to Haldane's ability to rise to any challenge and re-affirms our position as market leader in the manufacture and supply of specialist handrails, glazing beads and decorative wood products."
